Does an SSD still need to be defragmented?

No, not manually. When Windows "optimizes" an SSD it mainly sends TRIM, telling the drive which space is no longer in use, rather than shuffling files around like a hard-disk defrag. It runs on a schedule by default, so you can leave it alone.
