Why do some macOS folders turn blue and never turn back?

macOSFinderTags

Details

Where the blue comes from

Finder tags wrap items in a ring of color, and some sync or archiving tools swap in their own folder icons. Both are just clothing hung on the folder — the contents are untouched.2

How to turn it back

Right-click the folder and remove the tag; for a custom icon, open Get Info, select the small icon in the corner and hit delete. If it really won't go back, a sync tool is usually re-applying the makeup every time.2
